 I've been attracted by Le Carton de Mon Père

by Lucas Barfuss Editions Zoe because I thought that this book was a novel regarding the departure of a father, while it is a real essay on life, death and what there is in the between, with a profound and never semplicistic analysis of our reality and its complexities.

Lukas starts the book with the departure of his father, and the research of his ashes and the desire of not having any kind of inheritance from him.

A man, Lukas, as he wrote, who hasn't always lived a simple or common existence, but, devoted writer, at the end reached the goals he wanted to reach. Like also his father did, Lukas lived a borderline existence, and at long he didn't experience a good life. Lukas writes; "Je pouvais espérer la pitié, la compréhension ou la clémence, mais je n’étais pas assez stupide pour avoir de l’espoir. Ma famille ne m’aiderait pas et les services sociaux encore moins."

 

We live in a strained world, admits the author, where there are new perils and where people are like dormients. 

This book is inspired by a conference kept in 2021 at the faculty of law of the universtiy of Zurich and where Lukas was invited to speak on the rights of "posthumous children" and how we can formulate interests for the future generations and their integration into the democratic process. They were interested to discover which was his point of view, so starting from his own experience.

Lukas starts a literary digression, that passes through the book by Darwin on the Origin of Spieces and the arrival at the nazi-fascist as direct implication of the theories elaborated by Darwin explaining that the social and psychological process of our society is also marked by books, and experiences in grade to change the face of the world.

The people of XIX century for example felt the desire of inventing a national identity. Truth is a lie, freedom a prison and ignorance a strength writes the author. 

Right is not universal in our society, there is not a human right, but a privilege. Privileges are desired, or disputed. Objects are important because they keep satisfied us: if a smartphone works, we forget what it is going on in the world. 

The mass society meant for the man new injustices, new problems.

James Greenwood largely treated in his book the new society born with the progress and new injustices committed.

Other topics are treated, and although the book is little, trust me, it's a wonderful reading.

 Praga, Poesia che Scompare

di Milan Kundera è un'analisi lucida, razionale ed assolutamente affascinante della cultura praghese, occidentale per definizione, dopo la guerra, orientata ad Est per obbligo. Come Kundera rimarca nel suo pamphlet, talvolta i piccoli Paesi arrivano a comprendere prima di tutti gli altri i fatti che accadranno. E lo faranno tramite la letteratura, la musica, e saranno implacabili. Questo è quanto accade con Kafka e la condizione esistenziale dell'uomo e il labirinto burocratico nel quale sarebbe entrato senza più uscirne, l'idiozia militare di Hasek e la disperazione concentrazionaria di Janacek. I centri considerati minori dai grandi Stati Occidentali in verità, sono quelli che riescono ad afferrare nel bene e nel male i sentori del tempo che stiamo vivendo. Un mondo, quello del XX secolo, già visto in maniera conflittuale, e schicciante, con un uomo che perde identità. Così, se da una parte Proust e Joyce saranno ancora i massimi rappresentanti della centralità dell'uomo, e, nel caso di Proust, della bellezza che scaturisce da immagini sfolgoranti, da luoghi di incanto, già nell'Europa Centrale l'uomo pena, è schiavo di questi tempi moderni che tutti e tutto schiacciano. Non ha più una sua identità, e soprattutto, soffre nell'anonimato. 

Una storia quella di Praga assai complessa ma che Kundera ricostruisce sino ad arrivare alla rivoluzione del 1968, quando, in gran parte la letteratura ha rallentato di molto la fertilità tipica di quel territorio.

Conoscevo già Ottantanove Parole. Kundera si è sempre lamentato dei suoi traduttori. Una volta addirittura, racconta, uno gli ha mostrato una sua foto, per dirgli che da quella traeva ispirazione. In realtà pochissimi traduttori traducevano Kundera dal ceco. Molti conoscevano altre lingue, inglese, francese e si poggiavano a quelle. A loro volta chi magari aveva tradotto in inglese o francese aveva apportato vigorose modifiche, così un giorno il direttore di Le Débat" gli chiese di scrivere quelle che lui riteneva essere le "sue parole."

E qui le ritrovate.

Davvero bello. Mi ha fatto pensare agli intellettuali di un tempo ed alla solidità, erudizione di pensiero che c'era una volta.

Alfred Nobel Inconnu Celebre by Jean-Francois Battail

 Alfred Nobel Inconnu Célèbre

by Jean-Francois Battail is a book released by Sorbonne Press. I picked up this title because attracted by the idea of discovering more on Nobel considering the importance of that prize. 

I didn't know that he helped the gun industry with the creation of dynamite and so on. 

Alfred was born in Sweden: his father had failed, and they were poor when he was born but then his parent moved in Russia, Saint Persburg, where the family stayed at long and where little Alfred learnt english, russian, french and german fluently. Thanks to private lessons he learnt chemistry, literature. He was obsessed by Byron and Shelley. He adored these two authors so badly.

He also loved to write and had a decent library. 

Once returned to Sweden started a project for developing  the explosive with his brothers, but Emil the youngest one lost his existence because of it and his father never recovered anymore because of the departure of Alfred's brother.

Romantically he wasn't a man too obsessed by women. 

He had a relationship with a girl when 18 but this girl died when he studied chemistry in Paris. Then he met another woman who anyway was in love with someone else (he had found this lady thanks to a curious ad he had posted somewhere) and also his latest love was delusional.

A book that wants to speak of Alfred Nobel and the legacy he left to the world. He lived a contradictory exsistence affirming he was against wars, although was attracted, promoted and developed guns, bombs, in great to cause destruction during a war.

Storie di Paese di Renato Fucini

Leggere Storie di Paese

di Renato Fucini, edito da Festina Lente Edizioni, significa sprofondare nell'Italia più verace, genuina e appassionata che abbiamo conosciuto. Sono storie che, adesso, visti i progressi tecnologici e la mancanza sempre più di sogni, possono, a tratti, apparire un po' retrò, sebbene ci abbia ritrovato tanti, ma tanti tratti, vivendo in una piccola frazione, delle problematiche, che, vivaddio pure noi continuiamo a vivere o che riscontro nei piccoli borghi accanto a me.

Questo è un libro dolce, amabile, dove il sorriso si mescolerà alla riflessione. Le storie sono ambientate in Toscana, una regione che, in quanto a aneddoti divertenti ed esilaranti non è seconda a nessuna. 

Quello che penso la modernità possa aver portato di negativo, sia stata la standardizzazione e la patina che tutte, città, metropoli, piccoli paesini, hanno costruito per accogliere i turisti, rendendo i luoghi molto meno reali rispetto al passato. Questa perdita, però superficiale, non scalfisce le unicità di 

posti dove la gente è comunque riconosciuta per proprie caratteristiche laddove, in una grande città ci sarebbe un terribile appiattimento.

Tante le storie presenti su questo libro. 

Una che mi è piaciuta molto è stata quella della creazione della fontana nel paese. Insomma: all'inizio in centro, poi accanto alla chiesa...E come sempre tutto vien fatto per soddisfare amministratori e sindaci...

Battello invece racconta la storia di un venditore ambulante, mentre molto caliente sarà la storia della creazione di una statua in un paesino. Una statua che possa attrarre turisti e al tempo stesso celebrare qualcuno. Vien pensata una statua equestre. Oh bene, alla fine si chiedono i promotori: chi era un signore illustre della nostra zona che andava a cavallo? Chi, un cavaliere senza macchia?

Non vien trovato nessuno. Si pensa allora ad un busto. Viene perfino scelta la persona da commemorare, ma, buttiamola così, tutto va a finire a tarallucci e vino!

Mi ha colpito e fatto pensare il resoconto di una coppia di coniugi. Andava tutto bene nella loro esistenza. Campavano senza problemi fino all'arrivo del terzo figlio, quando sono cominciati grossi sacrifici. I figli sono arrivati a nove. Per raggranellare soldi quel signore faceva biscotti che attiravano tante persone non solo dal paese, ma anche e soprattutto da fuori. Però, che sacrificio! Non voleva saperne di stare lì tutto il giorno lì e i parenti che lo aiutavano gli avevan dato corda: così cedette l'attività ad un tale che si arricchì. 

Il medico che fa visitare il paziente dalla moglie, stando fuori casa è favoloso!

Ogni storia che leggerete, potete saltare di qua e di là con libertà e piacere, sarà carina, intrigante, contenendo perle di saggezza al suo interno.

It is the story of Ricky. Ricky looks with curiosity at mr.Wind. Mr.Wind is outside, powerful, weak, soft, calm, furious. It is an evening in which Mr. Wind is not so calm at all and tries all its best for damaging the house and things of Ricky. At first his little car flies away, then being open the window of Ricky's bedroom, many other objects and oopssss, the same Ricky!!! brought somewhere else by Mr. Wind. Attracted by an element not all the time positive, Ricky wants to play with him, but...

The mother at some point will stop by to the bedroom of Ricky, and Ricky will tell her an extraordinary adventure lived with Mr.Wind.

A nice, kind book that will tranport children in another dimension letting them appreciate a natural element not always so calm and gentle.

 Un libro stupendo, Les Années retrouvées de Marcel Proust

di Jérome Bastianelli pubblicato dalla Sorbonne Universite Presses. Bastianelli parte da una considerazione espressa nel libro della Recherche "Albertine Scomparsa" per continuare a far vivere Proust: "Come l'avvenire non esiste ancora se non nei nostri pensieri, questo ci pare ancora modificabile per l'intervento in extremis della nostra volontà". 

Come sarebbe stata la vita di questo insigne letterato se non fosse morto il 18 novembre del 1922 a soli 51 anni? Un esercizio alquanto interessante e che può essere fatto con chiunque sia scomparso prematuramente.

Bastianelli è, tra le altre cose, presidente della Sociéte des Amis de Marcel Proust et des amis de Combray. 

Il libro è di una bellezza sfolgorante, ricercato ma di semplice lettura. Più volte mi sono chiesta quante volte Bastianelli abbia letto la Recherche tanto è impregnato di Proust in ogni sua cellula. Jerome segue lo schema del romanzo monumentale di Marcel: comincia una frase, arriva ad una data, cita una persona o un luogo iniziando così fantastiche digressioni e utilizzando lo schema proustiano che conosciamo. 

Ho letto da qualche parte come Proust sia stato l'ultimo a rappresentare in parole un mondo colto, bello, raffinato, di pace e bellezza. Dopo di lui, forse anche a causa della Prima Guerra Mondiale, gli esiti della letteratura sarebbero stati decisamente altri.

Proust affetto da un'asma alquanto antipatica, che lo ha costretto e forzato spesso a rinunciare a viaggi che avrebbe voluto intraprendere, probabilmente non avrebbe disdegnato, se fosse stato in vita di andare a trovare una cara amica di sua madre residente a Nizza. Qui, Marcel avrebbe ricordato un suo carissimo amico ormai defunto e sepolto nel cimitero cittadino. L'idea di fare una capatina sarebbe stata troppo dolorosa da affrontare per lui: quella che sta vivendo è una condizione ancora molto sofferente per la scomparsa di questo amico speciale. 

In seguito Proust sarebbe entrato in contato con Antoine de Saint-Exupéry con cui avrebbe sviluppato una bellissima amicizia e sarebbe rimasto intrigato da Natalie Clifford Barney e dalle idee che portava con sé dalla lontana America. Grande amico di Ravel e dei nuovi letterati, l'atmosfera muta col mutare del tempo: alla fine degli anni '30 assieme a un rampante anti-semitismo scoppia la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e la domanda che vien posta da un ufficiale, un giorno che Proust viene raggiunto è solo questa: "Che cosa ci sta a fare ancora a Parigi? Che cosa aspetta a scappare via?" E così Proust fugge. Fugge via da Parigi senza farvi più ritorno. Attraversa alcuni Paesi per approdare, infine negli Stati Uniti, dove rimarrà in pace sino alla fine. Lì conoscerà Edward Hopper, vedrà la sua mostra al MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) di New York, ma ha contatti anche con Marc Chagall e Matisse. Sarebbe morto nel 1942. Una fine strana, quella la sua. Entra in una libreria d'occasione dove  trova un libro usato di George Sand che la madre gli ha letto tanto durante l'infanzia. Proust amava sua madre. La sua morte lo aveva distrutto. Avverte delle vertigini, ma poi tutto torna nella normalità. Il giorno dopo però verrà rinvenuto privo di sensi e morirà al Bellevue, ospedale pubblico completamente gratuito della città di New York. Il New Yorker appresa la notizia non potrà fare altro che dedicargli un profondo e sentito editoriale.

Vi raccomando caldamente questo libro. È piccolino, un tascabile. Lo inserite in borsa e quando avete uno spazietto ne leggete un po' . Una delle più belle e calde letture che abbia fatto di recente. Ma Proust era così. Avvolgente e prezioso.
